Admission exam to the 5-year degree course

The admission prerequisites

Since 2008, the baccalauréat or equivalent is required. Exceptions to this rule may be consented by a commission and on the basis of the personal experience already acquired by candidates. Students educated abroad must have a recognised baccalauréat equivalent and excellent command of written and spoken French.

A foundation course is highly recommended since the examination requires a certain level of artistic competency and in the oral interview candidates have to present a personal work portfolio difficult to constitute alone. Artistic competency is only one of the elements evaluated by the jury. Personal motivations and artistic ambitions are also taken into account.

The examination

One is required to pass the competitive entrance examination (commun exam for all candidates). The Ecole Camondo jury decide at which level each candidate is allowed to enter, according to his/her previous curriculum.

On day one, candidates are shown an installation or document then asked to produce a written commentary and a three-dimensional and graphic responses to this set subject.
Subjects examples :

2014 La Pluie
Textes de Francis Ponge et photographies de Patrick Tosani
sujet 2014
2013 Un objet ou une chose ?
Textes de Martin Heidegger
sujet 2013
2012 Ambiances exotiques
Textes de Le Corbusier, Le voyage en Orient
sujet 2012

On day two, candidates are asked to discuss the above work and their personal motivations for 20 minutes before a jury of Ecole Camondo lecturers. They are asked to present and defend a portfolio of personal work freely chosen to convey their creativity, motivations and level of reflection and knowledge. The interview enables the assessment of a candidate’s competency and maturity.

A special jury evaluates candidates seeking admission to upper years. Candidates must present a personal work portfolio compiled during prerequisite study years.

The jury is free to set examination questions and themes. It judges the year of admission and its decisions are final. There is a waiting list.
