Les Arts Décoratifs is organizing an exhibition called “Faire le mur ! quatre siècles de papiers peints” (Get over the wall ! Four Centuries of Wall papers) at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs on the third floor of the pavillon de marsan, from january 20 to may 15, 2016.
The exhibition aims to introduce visitors to the extraordinary collection of the wallpaper department, which boasts over 400,000 pieces dating from the seventeenth century to the present day. As the complete collection cannot be shown, the exhibition is structured around a series of atmospheres created in the six rooms on the third floor of the pavillon de marsan. While preserving a chronological aspect to illustrate the evolution of tastes and techniques, a pertinent but subjective selection of some 300 works, featuring highlights from the museum’s collection, illustrates the power of wallpaper to transform and disguise.
