Young Woman
SÉBASTIEN JACQUES LECLERC, known as LECLERC DES GOBELINS (1734-1785)
Paris, 1781, signed and dated on the book
oil on copper
A young woman wearing a tulle veil and a short white silk cape is leaning thoughtfully in a trompe-l’œil opening. In her right hand she is holding a small blue book inscribed with the painter’s name and the date the picture was painted. The artist used the same talent for rendering the textures of different fabrics in his illustrations for the volumes of the publication Galerie des modes et costumes français (1779-1781). He also taught perspective at the Gobelins manufactory.
