The Zig-Zag chair, designed in 1932 by the Dutch designer, cabinetmaker and architect Gerrit Thomas Rietveld, created/gave place to several technical experiments in order to be produced on an industrial scale, one of the difficulties being the assembly of the wood timbers. Zig-Zag fits into the artistic movement of the 1920s, De Stijl, characterized amongst other things by rigorous geometric order and recurrent use of the diagonal line that gives overall dynamism.
