With Mudha Walla Throne, which uses recycled objects, Gunjan Gupta, who trained in furniture design at Saint Martin’s College of Art & Design in London, questions the typology of the chair in her country. For her, chairs are seen as “vestiges” of India’s colonial past. Chairs with high seats, which appeared with the arrival of the Europeans, are often perceived as thrones and are synonymous with power.
