2018 winner of the Bettencourt Schueller Foundation Award for the Intelligence of the Hand – Exceptional Talents, Julien Vermeulen works in accordance with the traditions of plumasserie, the art of feather working, while reinterpreting the savoir-faire and usages of the craft. In his work, realized with great meticulousness, Vermeulen mostly explores the play of textures and movement created by the feathers. Black Shudder is, however, the symbol of the halting of time, the disappearance of movement, which gives way to a monochrome ocean, calm and serene. This panel, made in the spring, embodies a frozen world, echoing the suspended months of confinement.
